Living History Farms
Reports to: Director of Education
Position responsibilities:
Liaison to all school groups and youth organizations who wish to visit living history farms for any educational program. Assists the education director by taking reservations, scheduling interpretive site visits, organizing school group orientation and a variety of logistical tasks associated with these programs.
Prepares daily, weekly and monthly schedules and troubleshoots when substitutions are necessary with the approval of the education director.
Coordinates daily with the ticketing/guest services personnel in the visitor’s center to manage workflow.
Provides feedback on the orientation process of school groups and prepares curriculum packets.
Supervises volunteers as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
General Information:
Living History Farms is an interactive outdoor museum which educates, entertains and connects people of all ages to Midwestern rural life experiences. It is a privately run, not-for profit organization on 500 acres located in Urbandale, Iowa. Historical interpreters dress in period clothing and recreate the daily routines of early Iowans on three farm sites spanning the years 1700-1900 and an 1875 town. More than 100,000 guests visit Living History Farms annually, one third of who are associated with school visits or educational programs. The current season runs May 1-October 15, 2010. Living History Farms is open daily to the public during the season from 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday and Sunday from 12:00pm/Noon to 5:00pm until August 22nd. Beginning August 23 thru October 15th, 2010 we are open Wednesday-Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday Noon-5pm. Flexible work schedule is possible.
Qualifications:
Successful candidate will embrace the vision and mission of Living History Farms and seek to be a positive influence in sharing this mission with the general public.
Must have a warm and friendly personality both in person and over the phone and previous successful experience in customer service.
Previous experience a plus working in an academic environment or other non-profit educational team.
Comfortable interacting with the general public, leading a team, working with volunteers and exhibits courteous communication skills.
Previous experience with Microsoft Office product suite, especially EXCEL.
Must be highly detailed and comfortable working with spreadsheets and on-line registration processing.
Organization skills and dependability as well as self-motivated to seek continuous improvement of the educational programs and operations.
Must be comfortable working in the outdoors as the weather conditions change seasonally for greeting school groups.
College degree preferred.
Position status: Part-time, non-exempt
Starting wage range: $8.50 per hour, depending upon qualifications
